This application is not really an official product, it is an application that I wrote while in the process of learning to read Chinese. I decided that this program would probably be useful to others learning chinese as well, but I didn't think that it was at the level of software quality to call it an actual product. I hope that you may find it of use, I will give a quick tutorial of how to use it on this page.

This is the main view of the application. The field labeled "Chinese" displays the Chinese character(s). The fields Pinyin and English are used to display the answers when you are wrong. The field "Enter Answer" is where you type the pinyin of the character(s), if you select "Check Tones" then you must correctly use the tone indicator number as well. Once you enter the pinyin in the answer field, hit enter and if you are correct, it will display the results in the status bar and move on to the next item.

At the top of the dialog are the level indicators. You can specify a start level and an end level. For each Chinese word that you add to the program, you specify the level that it belongs to (from 1 to 20). You can also specify the maximum number of Chinese words that you want to see when you are running through the flash cards. Click the "Reload" button to load the changes that you make to these fields and start the flash card displaying over again.

Clicking the "Draw" button will open a little window where you can draw the character for practice. Show answer will fill the fields and next will skip to the next item.

If you select the "Options->Edit Word List" menu item, it will bring up the editor of the chinese words. Here you can enter new items and remove items from your flash card list. The data that is filled in currently is just what I like to use to help myself learn, I would suggest putting in your own words and using your own levels to study at your own pace, it is very configurable. Learning Chinese is both fun and challenging, I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do!
